Math in the Kindergarten... and a freebie!

Is it just me... or does the end of the school year seem to be fast approaching! I still have a whopping 21 days left but I am happy for you all who only have 1 or 2... I can not lie.. a little jealous too! I have been soooooooooo busy lately it aint even funny! But its all cool! I really do miss reading and following all of the wonderful teachers here and posting to my own blog, but time has just no allowed it!

We also laid to rest one of our students today. He was not in my class but a third grader who lost a battle with leukemia last week. It brings us all comfort knowing that he is  no longer suffering. He did have a brother in kindergarten, so it has taken my teammate a lot of strength to be there for him as well as to make sure that the other kinders in the class are aware but sensitive to his needs.

On a happier note!
My kiddos have been very busy working hard especially in Math, so I thought that today I would share with you some of the Mathematical things that we have been doing!
First, we learned our ordinal numbers. And yes we got in a line and decided which place we were in blah blah blah. But the second day we did a little review of ordinal numbers up to 4th and I pulled out the rocking magic microphone and did a little rap... My kids LOVE rap music.. tee hee hee... and we made it through the ordinal numbers review! We also did a few projects... We put ducks in order and we ordinally numbered the scoops on an ice cream cone...

After Ordinal Numbers we did a little with money. We identified the value of each coin and counted . Here is a picture of the craftivity that we did to go along with that (sorry the picture turned out sideways!)
And to tie in taking care of the earth and money we reused plastic bottles and decorated them with tissue paper. I then cut a hole in the side so that students could use this as a piggy bank!

Finally we have moved onto graphing! Today was actually our first day of graphing! and so we decided to graph our favorite colors. As you can see most of my class likes blue!

I have this graph activity available as a freebie! Hop on over to my TPT store to get

Thanks!

The Noun Game...

Hi friends!
This week I'm linking up with Latoya from Flying into First Grade for her

The topic this week is the NOUN game... I have to name my favorite person, place, thing, and animal... so here goes!

Person

Hands Down... this little guy is my absolute favorite person! I love my Caleb. He is the super smartest three year old boy. He is so creative and most of all... He LOVES his mama!!!

Place

My favorite place has got to be my home! Its small... but cozy and enough room for my son. I am hardly ever here...but when I am... I just feel good! Except for the people who live above me... teeheehee...

Thing

My cellphone! Where would I be without it!

Animal:

When i was in second grade my parents took me to the SPCA and let me pick out a dog! She will always be my favorite animal! Her name was Shadow. We had to put her to sleep because she was really sick about 3 years ago...

Well thats all for me! Please hop on over to Latoya's blog to share some info about you!

Shining down on 103

Hi there fantabulous friends!

I am seriously jealous of everyone on spring break right now! I have less than 2 weeks until mine!!! YIPPEEE!!! I can't wait!

As a teacher, I absolutely LOVE what I do. SOMETIMES... my kinder babies make me think that I should have taken a different career path... and today was one of those days!

But anyway... this week we have been learning a little bit about Space: The sun, the moon, the earth, the stars, the planets. You know all that stuff. As I was perusing Pinterest for some out of this world Space activities I cam across Sharing Kindergarten's Space Lesson Plans Plus... I have one word for this unit... AWESOME! Go to her TPT store and check it out! Just click on the link above!

We started on Monday by determining what we already knew about the sun, the stars, the moon, and the earth. Some of my babies knew a little somethin somethin... but some of them... No clue.... I mean... who knew that the moon was cute... The little girl who wrote that... def a girly girl.

After completing that...we watched a brainpopjr.com video all about the sun. It was very informative! My kids love Brain Pop!

And we made a chart about what we learned.

Finally... we wrote one sentence using the information that we had from our chart about the sun and used a paper plate and cut out the middle as our sun!
All of these awesome ideas came from the space packet mentioned above!!
Thats all for now ya'll! I have to go and get myself together after my day today....

We've Got Spirit Yes We Do! And a freebie that is just for you!

Hi all!!!  I have good news and bad news!! Which do you want first!! Huh Huh... The good or the bad???
Well!
Actually its the same news either way..... Here it is.... 103 and 104 (thats me and my teacher neighbor) are at it... yet again... Up to no good and causing mischief.... But This time... Its good mischief!

I've never really been big on Spirit Weeks... Until this last one that is... and Boy did 103 and 104 do it big!  I hope you can use our pics as inspiration for any spirit day that you have EVER in the future... or if you are looking for Halloween inspiration... even if that is a ways away!
  So here we are...

Monday... Hat Day!
We found these cute little hats from Party City for $1.00 and I have no idea what to do with it now!! But they are still awesome!
Tuesday... Geek Day

As you can see... We were geek twins! and it was sooooo much fun! My students weren't really sure what to think about us dressed up in such a way!

Wednesday would have been rock star day... But instead... It was a SNOW DAY!!! HA HA... and Thursday would have been crazy sock day!! But 103 and 104 showed up to school in what the rock star outfit!

Again... kids were in awe... especially with the colored hair... and my kinder babies just couldnt quite figure out how i got my hair colored.. and so my explanation... I dyed it... but then of course they thought I meant that I killed it... and painted it... Our rock star outfits were so inspiring... that the rest of the school decided... that friday would be...

Friday... Rock Star Day Number 2....

We toned it down a lot for rock star day number 2! But yet we were twins! With graphics from scrappin doodles and a font from Lettering Delight... We created these awesome t-shirts! with a lot of fringe and some rocker flair!!!

It was all in all a FUN week! And a short one.. tee hee hee... because of the snow! Now what was all this spirit for!!! Well we were celebrating our 5th grade students who will be taking the state writing test on Tuesday and Friday! And no... we dont teach 5th grade... we both teach Kindergarten..... but we have spirit anyway... and we work together to tutor 7 fabulous fifth grade students Monday through Wednesday!

Are you thinking that maybe we are crazy... well... kinda... are you thinking that we need to behave ourselves... well def!!

Believe we will... my kids have gone a little crazy tho... so for the month of March I made this little game board. Students get a sticker on each square at the end of every day if they have displayed positive behaviors. If they can fill it up they will get a HUGE reward at the end of the month. There are shamrocks in different squares and when they get a sticker on that particular square they get to go pull from the treasure box.. or some other type of reward... depends on how I feel that day...

Click on the picture below and that will take you to my TPT store where you can download it for free!

Well That all Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed hearing about our spirit week!
